  • "Which Sandbox do You Want to Play In?"

GREAT LAKES FABRICATORS & ERECTORS ASSOCIATION INVITES YOU TO JOIN US FOR A PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION ON INTEGRATED PROJECT DELIVERY

Design/Bid/Hope has dominated the delivery process for construction for decades. This process has resulted in:

Silos of expertise within design and construction
Animosity and lack of trust among design and construction professions
Added cost and risk for owners due to incomplete and uncoordinated documents

Owners understand this. They are looking for a better way. Some have tried Construction Management, others Guaranteed Maximum Price, others Design/Build, but the owner has yet to realize the full benefit of today's technology, when coupled with a collaborative design environment.

BIM is being heralded as the answer, as today's technology. But BIM has limitations. It doesn’t know good design from bad; it models and finds clashes. We all know anything can be built, given enough time and money. Is there a better use of BIM? Sustainable design provides another "answer,” but this doesn't incorporate consideration of construction efficiency. And all of these options continue to drive the fabrication industry into commoditization (low bid wins), with little or no opportunity to add value to the process.

A project delivery process that enables all the necessary parties to a construction project to break free from the quote and hope model is available. Integrated Project Delivery is such a process. This process brings design and construction professionals together at the early stages of a project as a collaborative design team, allowing the greatest flexibility to make changes and providing the greatest opportunity to impact total project costs. IPD does not reward the low bid; it rewards professionals, both design and construction, that contribute value to the total project.
