Speaker: Scott Walkowicz, Walkowicz Consulting Engineers

Due to its inherent strength and aesthetic potential, concrete masonry is a prime system of choice for meeting the 2015 International Building Code (IBC) storm shelter requirements. Join Scott Walkowicz for “lessons learned” while performing recent storm shelter conceptual masonry designs. Discussion includes: introduction of storm shelter code provisions, storm shelter loading, potential wall widths and heights, expected reinforcement and anchorage levels, and tips for optimizing concrete masonry storm shelters.

After the seminar attendees will be able to:

  • Understand the development the sheltering requirements
  • Discuss concrete masonry attributes that promote safe storm shelter designs.
  • Relate required storm shelter loading to concrete masonry systems.
